Did you know that on Monday, April 8, 2024, there is going to be a total solar eclipse? Sadly, Vegas is not in the path of the actual TOTAL eclipse, so we will only experience a partially blocked sun. The eclipse process in Clark County will begin around 10:12 AM and run through 12:30 PM as the moon travels in front of the sun. For some students (and maybe some adults), this might be their first experience with an eclipse so we want to provide some information and have a little fun at the same time.
To help our students and staff safely experience the eclipse, we have purchased Solar Eclipse glasses for all. These will be distributed during 3rd period tomorrow. The scope of the eclipse occurs over both our lunches and multiple passing periods, so we encourage all staff and students to take appropriate precautions while moving around outside and to avoid looking at the sun directly without their solar eclipse glasses.
East Tech will also be hosting a Solar Eclipse event from 11:15 - 11:25 to allow all members of the school community to see the eclipse at its apex which is set to occur around 11:20 AM. Teachers will be able to bring their 5th-period classes out to the back bus lot for a few minutes to see this celestial event in action. We will have administration and other staff on hand to provide additional supervision.
We are also hosting a "secret' Total Eclipse Spirit Day and encourage everyone to wear all black to celebrate this event with the sun!

¿Sabías que el lunes 8 de abril de 2024 habrá un eclipse solar total? Lamentablemente, Vegas no se encuentra en el camino del eclipse TOTAL real, por lo que solo experimentaremos un sol parcialmente bloqueado. El proceso del eclipse en el condado de Clark comenzará alrededor de las 10:12 a. m. y se extenderá hasta las 12:30 p. m. mientras la luna viaja frente al sol. East Tech también organizará un evento de eclipse solar de 11:15 a 11:25 para permitir que todos los miembros de la comunidad escolar vean el eclipse en su punto máximo, que ocurrirá alrededor de las 11:20 a.m. Los maestros podrán llevar sus clases del quinto período al estacionamiento trasero de autobuses durante unos minutos para ver este evento celestial en acción. ¡También organizaremos un Día del Espíritu del Eclipse Total "secreto" y animamos a todos a vestirse completamente de negro para celebrar este evento con el sol!
